Several chapters in Spec 2000 define the data-exchange specifications for the transfer of large files between aircraft operators and suppliers. These file standards ultimately improve efficiency and accuracy of data and reduce both costs and processing time. Standardized file formats have been recognized as a way to improve efficiency in the aviation industry for many years and have become widely used by the major airlines and suppliers. Through the exchange of provisioning, consumption, delivery configuration and reliability information, airlines and suppliers have attributed significant savings to Spec 2000. These files can be exchanged over any medium, as agreed between trading partners. The following sections describe these important components of the Spec 2000 system.
